If the toaster killed 30,000 American annually we'd all say Fix The Toaster! Car crashes are mostly preventable, we need to fix these horrible statistics.

Fix The Toaster Blog

A site dedicated to bringing conversation to road safety. Car crashes are mostly preventable. They are not accidents. We need to be changing the way we think about them.

Your Odds of Dying in Train Travel vs. Car Travel

December 06, 2012 in Most Accidents Aren't Accidents- They Are Preventable Crashes-

Just this week I got away from LA and took a trip for 48 hours down South. I chose to travel by my favorite means of traveling, by train. securedownload-1

The most dangerous part of my trip was the ride to the Metro Station.

No offense to my father in law. Just statistically speaking.

I hopped on the Metro, jetted downtown through a foggy morning grabbed some food and hopped unto Amtrak's Surfliner. Half of the trip down South you see a lot of industry. And then you hit the beach. It's an amazing train ride. As my husband commented, one that won't be around forever due to rising sea levels.

People on the train were drinking coffee, alcohol, texting at free will. A universal good vibe just exists on that train ride.

I love trains.

But I also love being able to get in my car when I'm not in the mood for public transportation.

I just hope that a major shift can happen in the way that we drive.

But it you are a big fan of drinking and texting while in a moving machine, may I suggest to you to just take a train.

**Interestingly enough here are your odds of being killed in a train crash versus a road crash, according to the Mirror UK.

500,000/1 BEING KILLED IN A TRAIN CRASH.

DESPITE a number of fatal crashes, public transport is still the safest way to travel. Buses are even safer than trains, with the odds of being killed 13 million to one.

8,000/1 KILLED IN A ROAD ACCIDENT.

EVERY year 1,500 car drivers and adult passengers die in road smashes, while around 1,000 pedestrians and cyclists die in road accidents. Worldwide, over 3,000 people are killed in road crashes daily.
