Chicago, SheBuys Car, Next Twitter Party, Oh My

I recently returned from Chicago as I put on my show Expressing Motherhood there.

My efforts towards Fix The Toaster have had to be put on the back burner so I don't burn out, I also have 3 young kids.

While in Chicago I was blown away by the vibrant walking community there! Especially in Belmont where I started my love affair with Nettlehorst school. A public school that has been transformed into greatness via walking. There is even a book written about it.

I was stopping parents on the streets. I just loved the energy.

Being back in my LA suburb I feel the lack of energy. The isolation of being in my car. Now Fix The Toaster is not anti-car I like cars and I am not here to fight the battle for better mass transportation, though I love it and people who are. I'm here to promote safer driving.

But I sure appreciated the commuters who biked to work via their bikes on a bike path, separate from cars.

I also really was moved by a campaign Chicago has on trying to shed light on how many pedestrians are hit in Chicago each year. Encouraging others to drive more safely.

I will be writing for She Buys Cars and I will become one of their leading voices for safety on the road. Very excited, anything to get the word out there.

I am seeing more moms out there tweeting about driving safely. I know that #drivesafe was trending a few weeks ago. I believe Sprint was in on that party.

I haven't been holding my own Twitter parties but please mark your calendar and I'll hold one next Thursday at 6PM. That way those of you in other places can join in. Use the hashtag #drivesafe.

National Walk  Bike To School Day is coming up. If you don't walk to school, why not try doing it that day?
