I have been putting on my show so I have cut back on working on Fix The Toaster for a bit.
Interestingly though, I've been commuting so I like to think of it as Fix The Toaster out in the field.
Last week I took about a 40 minute commute each way. I was busy but I promised myself not to use my phone. So I drove, listened to music, looked at people while they texted at lights.
Then I hit a gray area. I needed to go somewhere I had not been so I programmed it into my phone. But the voice automated guidance didn't come on so I looked at my phone while at a light thinking, what am I doing?
I pulled over to check my directions but as I had lunch with my producing partner I told her that the maps are really a gray area for me.
Clearly, it's the same as reading a text.
So, I'll have to make sure I have the voice automated set before I leave.
I also think that our lives are so chaotic that while in the car is a time people have deemed an appropriate time to talk to their friends, lovers, etc.
It is hard not to use your phone BUT the rewards and payoffs are TREMENDOUS(ly) under appreciated or acknowledged.
How about you? How long is your commute? Do you talk while driving?
